How to Conduct a Celebrity Interview
Should you find yourself lucky enough to have the chance to interview a celebrity it may not be as easy as you had imagined. There are a few things that you must remember in order to make your interview a success and keep things interesting and fun for both your viewers/readers and the person you are interviewing.
The first thing to remember is that the only reason a celebrity will take part in an interview is if it benefits them in some way, this may sound harsh but it is completely true, if the interview makes for good promotional benefits and can raise their profile in any way then that is what it is all about. With this in mind you must remember that you are not there to simply have a chat with your favourite celeb, you need to think about the right questions to ask. A good place to start is to ask them a little about what they have been up to recently, and about any projects they have just finished working on etc, also never be afraid to ask them to elaborate on their answers you may need to dig a bit of that extra juicy bit of information that would make for a great story.
Once you find yourself settled into the interview and both you and your subject are a bit more relaxed you will find that the rapport between you will raise and the questions will flow more easily. A good thing to ask at this stage is how they have enjoyed working with certain directors or actors and try and find out a bit of back stage gossip about the film or TV show they were working on and get some information that is not commonly known, spend a few minutes talking about this before moving on to ask about some more personal details such as their relationships, family and personal life. This topic must be handled with caution though as not all celebs are eager to talk about their personal lives so the questions must not seem intrusive or appear as if you are prying, it should be part of a natural conversation and have some kind of relevance to what you are discussing at the time.
The last thing you should talk about is future projects, what does the celebrity in question have planned for the future, find out the scoop on new films or TV shows that they will be appearing in and who they will be starring with etc. This is the time to talk about things that you think they would like to promote. Lastly, always finish your interview in a courteous and professional manor, even if the person you were interviewing may not have been as forthcoming as you would have liked. Professionalism is the key, and you may find that next time you interview them they will remember you for this and be keen to talk more.
